Vincenzo Mastrolia, PhD | Postdoc
Vincenzo received his Biotechnology degree in Milan, Italy and has since trained in four leading European laboratories, gaining expertise in physiology and neurobiology. During his PhD in Austria (Bernhard Flucher lab, Innsbruck Medical University) he investigated the role of an auxiliary subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in insulin release, applying patch-clamp electrophysiology and calcium imaging to study cellular excitability and secretion. Following his PhD, Vincenzo spent 8 years of postdoctoral experience working on synaptic plasticity and regulation across France (Jean-Antoine Girault lab, Institut du Fer a Moulin, La Sorbonne, Paris) and UK (Juan Burrone lab, Centre for Developmental Neurobiology, King’s College London). His interest in sensory integration and neural circuitry led him to our lab where he combines slice electrophysiology and circuit mapping to study neural circuits in the head direction system.
